A better way to build.
The science of better construction
Most homes are built to meet minimum code requirements. We build beyond them.
At Stack & Standard, we combine advanced building science with high-performance materials to create homes that are stronger, healthier, more efficient, and more resilient. We work closely with each client to understand their priorities, lifestyle, budget, and long-term goals, then recommend the building systems that best align with those objectives.
Whatever the project requires, autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC) products, cold-formed steel framing and trusses, structural steel, advanced wood framing, or a combination of materials, we build with products based on performance, not tradition. Every decision is made with durability, comfort, efficiency, and value in mind.
Our homes are designed to better resist fire, moisture, pests, and extreme weather while delivering exceptional indoor air quality, energy efficiency, and long-term durability. The result is a home that performs better today and retains its value for generations.

Why we build differently
Every project is different. Rather than relying on a single construction method, we work with owners and architects to select the building systems that best support the home's performance goals, budget, and design.
For decades, many homes in Central Texas have been built using methods that prioritize speed and cost over long-term performance. The result is often a home that struggles with moisture management, indoor air quality, energy efficiency, durability, and resilience. We take a different approach by evaluating each project through the lens of building science to identify the materials and assemblies that will perform best in our hot, humid climate.
Whether that means utilizing AAC products, cold-formed steel, structural steel, advanced wood framing, or a combination of these systems, our goal is always the same: to build healthier, more durable, and more resilient homes.
Architecture & design, tailored to you
Some projects begin with an established architect and engineering team, while others benefit from a fully integrated design-build approach. Stack & Standard is structured to support either path.
Working alongside talented architects, engineers, designers, and craftsmen, each home is thoughtfully developed to balance beauty, functionality, and long-term performance. Every decision is guided by careful attention to design, structural integrity, and the details that define exceptional homes.
From concept through construction, the focus remains on ensuring that inspired design is met with expert execution, resulting in homes that are as enduring as they are beautiful.

Building beyond industry standards
Drawing on more than 15 years of construction experience, advanced building science training, and collaboration with some of the industry's leading high-performance building professionals, we have developed a building approach focused on durability, efficiency, comfort, and long-term value.
The result is a home built to a higher standard, with a warranty that reflects that commitment. Every Stack & Standard home is backed by a 2-year finish warranty, 4-year mechanical warranty, and 10-year structural warranty.
Because when a home is built with better systems, better materials, and better execution, it should be backed with confidence.
The vision behind Stack & Standard
With 15 years of experience in construction and design, Shay Millheiser founded Stack & Standard to create homes that are thoughtfully designed, expertly built, and made to last.
Drawing on advanced building science education and years of study focused on Climate Zone 2A and the unique challenges of building in Central Texas, Shay combines proven construction practices with the latest advancements in building technology and high-performance design. Her approach is also shaped by her Bachelor of Science degree in Nutritional Sciences, where she focused on understanding how external environments impact internal systems. This perspective naturally extends to how she thinks about the relationship between homes and the people who live in them.
The result is a building approach that blends architectural beauty, durability, efficiency, and long-term performance to create homes that perform as exceptionally as they look.

"Quality construction means building a home you can trust — not just for how it looks today, but how it lives for generations."
